National Center for Lesbian Rights
They offer legal advice to both clients and lawyers and have been instrumental in winning important cases for the rights of gays, lesbians and transgender individuals.
Gathers and preserve records of Lesbian lives and activities so that future generations will have ready access to materials relevant to their lives. The archives are open to all lesbian women who wish to use it.
The Mautner Project supports lesbians with cancer, their families and partners. The Mautner Project is also a leader in research for lesbian health issues.
Created to address the needs of black lesbians in the areas of Health, Public Policy, Economic Development, and Education.
Promotes the visibility and integration of gay women in entertainment, the arts, and all forms of media. They support lesbian film makers and award grants each year to creative projects to promote the positive visibility of lesbians.
The only national non-profit organization solely dedicated to equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) parents and their families. They provide advocacy, education, and support to gay and lesbian headed families.
Parents Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG)
PFLAG promotes the health and well-being of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered persons, their families and friends. They offer support, education, and advocacy, to end discrimination and to secure equal civil rights. Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays provides opportunity for dialogue about sexual orientation and gender identity, and acts to create a society that is healthy and respectful of human diversity. Chapters exist all over the United States.
The Human Rights Campaign (HRC)
As America’s largest gay and lesbian organization, the Human Rights Campaign provides a national voice on gay and lesbian issues. The Human Rights Campaign lobbies Congress; mobilizes grassroots action in diverse communities; invests to elect a fair-minded Congress; and increases public understanding through innovative education and communication strategies.
The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force
Founded in 1973, the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Foundation was the first national lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights and advocacy organization and remains the movement’s leading voice for freedom, justice, and equality. They work to build the grassroots political strength of the gay community and hold a leadership conference each year. I am a proud member of this organizarion and they will keep you updated!
Started up in the mid-1990’s and was one of the first major web sites for lesbians. For many years the site provided a comprehensive list of web links and also hosted discussion lists and web sites for lesbian-oriented non-profits. The site also sponsored a lesbian literary journal called Sapphic Ink.
Formerly the Gay & Lesbian National Hotline, is a national non-profit organization that is dedicated to meeting the needs of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community and those questioning their sexual orientation and gender identity. It has one of the largest database of national and international organizations and local resources, including gay-friendly religious organizations, sports leagues and student groups.
GRIN Campaign, Global Respect in Education, is a transatlantic non-profit organization and advocacy group which campaigns primarily for LGBTQ social and political equality in education. GRIN seeks to end discrimination, harassment, and bullying based on sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression in all educational institutes. The campaign also supports a photographic protest, known as “RESPECT”.
A grassroots, nonprofit organization that demands queer rights through direct action. Formed in late 2009 as a response to the New York State Legislature’s denial of same-sex marriage to its constituents, Queer Rising was responsible for such acts as crashing a prominent former state senator’s private Christmas party and a Valentine’s protest in which members chained themselves to the New York Marriage Bureau.
A grassroots organization dedicated to creating a fully inclusive Jewish community for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) Jews in Greater Boston and across the country. We offer resources, training, and technical assistance for creating change in Jewish communities nationwide. In Hebrew, Keshet means both “rainbow,” a symbol of GLBT pride, and “bow,” an instrument for action.

So after deciding not to become porn stars, they decided to start their own website and share what they have learned, observed, or experienced themselves.
